Direct/Residual Shear Machine

The  Dead-Weight Direct/Residual Shear Machine by Karol-Warner is a motorized dead-weight testing machine for direct and residual shear testing of undisturbed and remolded soil samples. A solid 1-1/4in (32mm) base for the Shear Box assembly is mounted on a sturdy steel cabinet, with heavy-duty casters for easy mobility. This compact, self-contained unit is built for harsh laboratory environments and requires little floor space.

uses a 10:1 beam loading device to control confining pressures. A load cell with digital readout displays shear force and analog dial indicators measures vertical and shear displacement. A stepper motor drive controls the strain rate within 1%, and is easily adjustable using digital thumb wheel controls. The strain rate can be set from 0.0001—0.3in/min (0.0025—7.62mm/min). Maximum shear displacement is 0.8in (20.3mm). Travel is set with limit switches. Vertical load capacity is 1,411lb (640kg) and maximum horizontal shear force is 1,500lbf (6,672N). Optional digital horizontal and vertical displacement transducers are available to provide output to a PC when connected to the HM-418 Two-Channel, or HM-419 Four-Channel Digital Readout, purchased separately. The HM-419 provides a channel to direct force measurements to a PC. The HM-738 Horizontal Displacement Transducer has 0.5in (12.7mm) range with 0.0001in (0.0025mm) resolution, and the HM-739 Vertical Displacement Transducer has 1in (25.4mm) range and 0.0001in (0.0025mm) resolution.

The basic system includes HMA-735 2.5in (63.5mm) diameter stainless steel shear box with porous stones and drainage plates. Additional Shear Boxes are available and can be purchased separately. A loading block, and a water chamber constructed of Teflon coated anodized aluminum for corrosion resistance are also included.

One US or Metric weight sets is required for proper operation and are purchased separately. Additional individual weights are available upon request.
