This method is applicable in all soils, although in saturated sand under several feet of hydro-static  pressure the sand tends to flow into the lead sections of the auger, requiring a wash down prior to sampling. Boring up to nearly 100 m can be made with these devices, depending on the driving equipment, soil, and auger diameter
