Longcom Garbage Chute Description

l  PART 1 – GENERAL

 

1.1             SUBMITTALS

 

A.      Catalog Cuts: Before the Garbage chute is deliveredto the job site, submit catalog cuts to the Architect in accordance with thesespecifications, showing all details of installation and assembly and allrequirements for work by other trades.

 

B.      Product Data: Manufacturer’s product specifications,standard details and recommendations for project conditions; indicate selectedsizes and installation details specific to the project.

 

C.      Shop Drawings:

1.      Plans: Scale ¼ inch to 1 foot; indicate locations,dimensions, and required associated construction activities.

2.      Elevations / Sections: Scale ¼ inch to 1 foot;indicate locations, dimensions, and required associated required constructionactivities.

3.      Details: Scale ¼ inch to 1 foot; indicate:

a.      Shop drawings specific to project conditions.

b.      Interface with adjacent construction.

c.       Dimensions and tolerances.

d.      Products required for installation of the Garbagechute, but not supplied by Garbage chute manufacturer.

D.     Close-out Submittals:

1.      Operation and Maintenance Data:

a.      Manufacturer’s printed Operational Manual.

2.      Warranty Documents: Issued and executed by themanufacturer and installer of the system.

1.2             QUALITYASSURANCE

 

A.      Qualifications:

1.      Manufacturer: Minimum five (5) years documentedexperience-producing products specified in this section.

2.      Installer: Approved by the Manufacturer, and havinga minimum of five (5) years experience.

 

1.3             WARRANTY

 

A.      Manufacturer’s warranty: Furnish manufacturer’sstandard one (1) year warranty from date of installation.  Warranty shall apply to defects in productworkmanship and material only.

 

l  PART 2 – PRODUCTS

2.1  PRODUCTS:

B.      Components:

1.      The chute shall be 24” diameter of SUS304 steel asmanufactured by Longcom(Guangzhou) Manufacturing.

2.      Doors: 15 inches wide x 18 inches high, handoperated hopper type intake doors, self-closing, bottom hinged with 1-1/2 hour“Longcom” label; maximum 30 minute, 250°F temperature rise.  Stainless steel with shining finish. leverhandle with keys.  Only intake door onthe market with both front, back and skirt with stainless steel panels.  Better looking, longer lasting, easiercleaning, low maintenance.

3.      Discharge: Open-end  “Longcom” labeled, interlocking type bladesheld open by fusible link assembly for automatic closing with heat around 60-80°.

4.      Vent: Full diameter vent extending 3 feet above roof with hinged metalsafety cap.

5.      Floor Frames: Standard floor frames are 1-1/2” x1-1/2” x 3/16” steel angles.

6.      Standard Accessories: ½” sprinkler and ¾” flushinghead above top intake.  Additional ½”:sprinkler heads at alternate intake floors as required by clients and localregulation.  Furnished ONLY, forconnection by others.

 

C.       GarbageChute available upon request. Specific design requirements must be reviewedwith CHUTES International prior to specifying.

 

2.2        FABRICATION

      

A.      The Garbage chute shall be fully factory assembledand all joints, except those required separating the sections for shipment andinstallation shall be welded or lock-seamed tight.  The floor intake doors shall be bolted inplace on throats formed into the chute. All chute sections shall flash inside the sections below and there shallbe no bolts, clips, or other projections inside the chute to snag the flow ofmaterial.  Pre-positioned support framesshall assure proper intake levels and there shall be an expansion joint in thechute between all support joints. Discharge offsets, where required, shall be reinforced and separately supportedin the impact area. 

 

PART 3 – EXECUTION

 

3.1             EXAMINATION

 

A.      Verification of conditions:

Area in whichsystem is to be located is correct size and location, and is prepared forinstallation of Garbage chute and components.

 

B.      Installer’s examination:

1.      Have installer of this section examine conditionsunder which construction activities of this section are to be performed, thensubmit written notification if conditions under which construction activitiesof this section are to be performed are unacceptable.

2.      Beginning construction activities of this sectionbefore unacceptable conditions have been corrected is prohibited.

3.      General Contractor shall verify and record chutealignment with installer immediately following installation.

 

3.2             INSTALLATION

 

A.      Install Garbage chute in accordance with shop drawingsand manufacturer’s printed installation instructions.

 

3.3             DEMONSTRATION

 

A.      Arrange demonstration of system operation,conducted by manufacturer’s representative, to Owner’s maintenance personnel.
